CAPE JAZZ
or
JAZZ FROM THE CAPE?
Our final piece, this documentary is meant as an exploration of "Cape Jazz": its history, its present, and its future. Yet, as we learned through our interviews and conversations with academics, musicians and legends of the genre, this is all far from simple storytelling.
In this documentary we wish to open up a discussion about the term "Cape Jazz", what it means to different groups of people, and the inherent implications that a label such as this is attached to.
Is it a resistance movement?
A way of segregating artists?
A certain sound?
What do you think?
